Jack Grealish believes the FIFA Club World Cup's expanded format will make it an unbelievable experience.

The tournament gets under way next month in the United States, with City competing against Wydad AC, Al Ain FC and Juventus for a place in the knockout stages.

In total, 32 teams from around the world are looking to be crowned inaugural winners of the new competition, with the final set to take place in two months’ time on Sunday 13 July.

And Grealish says the opportunity to fight with top teams from across the globe is an experience he and his team-mates are relishing.

Speaking on the new format, he said: “I think it’s completely different, now you’re going somewhere with 32 teams.

“It’s a completely different format [to the previous tournament] but something that I think will be unbelievable if I’m honest.

“It’s something I’ve never heard of before, where you have that many teams in a group stage and then a knockout stage. I’ve been fortunate enough to play at the World Cup for England and it was unbelievable.

“I feel like it’ll be incredible, everyone’s looking forward to it and hopefully we can do well out there.”

Grealish was part of the squad who travelled out to Saudi Arabia in December 2023 to compete for the trophy in the competition’s previous format.

Wins against Urawa Red Diamonds and Fluminense ensured the Blues won the tournament, but the winger recalls that facing different footballing philosophies was a fascinating experience.

“I remember when we won in December 2023, we played Fluminense,” he added.

“They were incredible, we ended up winning, but playing against these types of opposition, I’m not saying they see football differently, but it’s a completely different type to the way we play and see here.

“It was good, and obviously to do that again this summer will be a top experience.”
