Hannah Hampton recently marked her 100th Women’s Super League appearance, becoming the youngest goalkeeper in WSL history to achieve the feat.
The 23-year-old started her fifth league match for Chelsea this season and marked a major milestone in both her career and the WSL history books.
Since her WSL debut in 2018, Hampton has featured for several different clubs. The Lioness started her senior career at Birmingham City, signing her first professional contract with the club in December 2018. Hampton made several league appearances for the Blues, starting 12 out of the 20 WSL matches during the 2018/19 season.
She extended her stay with Birmingham in 2019, committing to the club until 2021. She then joined rivals Aston Villa on the expiry of her contract with Birmigham.
Hampton signed a two-year deal with Villa on a free transfer in July 2021 and went on to make a total of 43 appearances for the club. In her final season, she kept five clean sheets in 15 WSL games.
In 2023, Chelsea unveiled the signing of Hampton on a three-year deal, following the end of her Villa contract. Hampton made her debut for the Blues in December 2023 where she kept a clean sheet against Bristol City. She is currently the first choice goalkeeper for the reigning WSL champions.
Hampton made her 100th WSL appearance in November 2024 in Chelsea’s game against Everton, where she kept a clean sheet. Only four goalkeepers before her have achieved this milestone. She has made history by being the youngest player to achieve this at 23 years and 353 days old.
