Joaquin Correa will be hoping that he’s reached a turning point at Inter Milan with his surprise heroics against Hellas Verona.
Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, argue that the Argentine could cement a real place for himself after his impressive display yesterday.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to give forward Correa a chance to start yesterday.
The Nerazzurri coach used the Argentine in the starting eleven as he aimed to use the full squad at his disposal. Squad rotation will be an important aim for Inzaghi in the matches to come.
Prior to yesterday, Correa had made just three appearances for Inter this season.
All three of those came from the bench. They had totalled less than 45 minutes of football.
This seemed to suggest that Inzaghi was just making the best of Correa’s availability, having the 30-year-old give the team a hand seeing out matches and giving other forwards a chance to catch their breath.
But there was little indication that Inzaghi saw Correa as a part of the starting rotation.
Correa got the chance to shine yesterday, though. And the former Lazio and Sevilla man grabbed it with both hands.
Correa scored Inter’s opener, assisted two more goals, and hit the crossbar twice.
Despite having rarely shown his best form at Inter, Correa looked sharp and hungry in yesterday’s match.
This was something few would have anticipated just a couple months ago.
Correa’s departure had looked inevitable during the summer transfer window.
However, the Argentine has shown that, as long as he is at Inter, he is capable of having his say.
Now, the Corriere argue, Correa will be capable of entering into the rotations in attack for Inter.
The 30-year-old can push Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, Marko Arnautovic, and Mehdi Taremi.
