FLW take a look at how much Ben Brereton-Diaz earns with the potential of a move back to Sheffield United.
Chris Wilder has once again got his Sheffield United side fighting at the top of the Championship.
Having been miserably relegated from the top tier last season, the Blades have hit back in fine form and will be eyeing a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
The January window will provide an opportune moment to make some extra additions, and Wilder has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his squad this window.
With the takeover nearing completion, funds are set to become available, and the club has already turned its attention to signing former attacker Ben Brereton Díaz.
According to The Sun, the new owners are prepared to fund a fresh move for Southampton's number 17, who played for the Blades on loan from Villarreal last season.
Having joined the Saints this summer, Brereton Díaz has struggled for regular game time, making just four starts in the Premier League.
It is believed that the attacker is not in Southampton's current plans, although this could change with Ivan Juric reportedly set to be appointed as head coach on the South Coast.
With this interest in mind, at Football League World, we have decided to take a look at Brereton Díaz's current St Mary's wage ahead of a potential move to Bramall Lane.
Having made the move to Southampton this summer, Brereton Diaz signed a four-year contract which saw him net a weekly wage of £35,000.
Across a season, this would total to £1,820,000, meaning if he stayed at Saints for the full length of his deal he would earn a resounding £7,280,000.
This is a fairly median wage for Southampton, with the likes of Aaron Ramsdale and Jan Bednarek reportedly earning £120,000 and £70,000 respectively.
Looking back at his time at Sheffield United, Capology estimates that Brereton Díaz was earning the same weekly wage as his current one at St Mary's.
This is far more than he earned at Blackburn Rovers, where he took home £5,692 every seven days.
If the 25-year-old were to join the Blades in January, he may need to accept a wage cut, as his current salary at Southampton would make him one of the highest earners at Sheffield United.
At present, Leicester City loanee Harry Souttar is the top earner, with the central defender taking home £40,000 per week.
Below that you have a number of players with influential midfielders like Gustavo Hamer and Vinícius Souza earning £30,000 weekly. Overall, the average wage of Chris Wilder's players is £16,885 per week, with a total annual payroll of £22,828,000.
While the Chilean's previous exploits in the division would see him demand a substantial figure, whether he should be on the same wage as the likes of Hamer and Souza is debatable.
A pay cut may be necessary if a permanent deal is agreed while Southampton could cover part of his salary if it's a loan.
