Comparing the final fixtures for each club embroiled in the Championship relegation fight
Stoke City, Derby County, Preston North End, Luton Town and Hull City will all go into the final day of the Championship season looking to avoid becoming the 22nd placed side in the table.
The Tigers currently occupy that final place inside the relegation zone going into the weekend.
Ruben Selles’ side are one point behind the three sides above, Luton, Preston and Derby, while Stoke are only two clear of the drop.
The Yorkshire outfit suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to the Rams last weekend, which put them in this precarious position.
Here we look at all of these clubs’ remaining fixture as we look to determine who will be relegated into League One for next season.
Hull will close out their Championship campaign with a trip to Fratton Park to take on Portsmouth.
John Mousinho’s team secured their safety in the division with multiple games to spare thanks to a four game unbeaten run they are currently on.
A 1-1 draw away to Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday has put them in a comfortable 16th place position, five points ahead of Hull, leaving them with little to play for on the final day.
While it is away from the MKM Stadium, this is an ideal potential opponent for Hull, as they will need three points to give them the best chance at survival on Saturday.
The previous league meeting between the two sides earlier this term finished 1-1, which might be enough to save Selles’ side this weekend, depending on results elsewhere, due to the team’s superior goal difference.
Stoke, Derby, Preston and Luton all have their fate in their own hands going into this weekend’s final round of games.
However, the clash between the Potters and John Eustace’s side gives this relegation battle an extra edge.
Stoke will travel to Pride Park, with both clubs needing a result to ensure their survival in the division.
The Potters have a slight advantage, as they know a draw will keep them above Derby in the table, which would be enough to avoid dropping into 22nd, while the hosts will need a win to have total control of their fate.
Meanwhile, Luton are away to West Brom and Preston travel to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City.
The Hatters have the favourable final game of this pair, as the Baggies are 10th and have no chance of making it into the play-offs, leaving them with little to play for on the final day.
However, Bristol City are fifth and will have their focus on their own battle for promotion, so will want to avoid defeat that could prove very costly.
Luton and Preston both have to win to ensure their safety, although a draw or loss would be fine as long as they match the same result as Hull.
