Leicester City manager Amandine Miquel says that she trusts her players to do what is required to help the club climb away from relegation danger.

The Foxes go into the second half of the season in 11th position in the Barclays Women’s Super League table, one point and one place above the relegation zone.

Leicester City face a huge final 12 games as they look to preserve their top flight status but manager Miquel says that she has complete trust in the group.

“I trust the players to do what is necessary,” Miquel said when speaking to the media in a Leicester City press conference. “It’s nothing new to them, they’ve been through this already and they know that every season is going to be hard.

“Last season, they had more points in the first phase and not so many in the second phase. Whichever way it goes, it’s about when you reach that last game.

“We have to focus on every game, make sure that we perform to get as many points as we can and make sure we have enough on the last game.”

Leicester City’s next four league matches are against sides outside of the top four. Miquel says that her side need to pick up points in any way that they can and that no game is any easier than another.

She said “It’s important to capitalise in any game because as we have shown, we took a point against Chelsea where nobody had done that.

“Obviously, you’ll tend to focus more on those games [against lesser opposition] because you think they’re easier but I think there are no easy games. We have to do our best in every game.

“Taking points against the bottom teams or the top-four is good; there’s not one way to fight relegation, you have to put your energy in every game and really believe that you can take points in every game.”

Leicester City are unbeaten in three games and Miquel believes that her side have strengthened their mentality going into the second half of the campaign.

She said “The end to the first phase was good, not just in a footballing aspect but in a mental aspect. The players were switched on in the mentality that we expect from them.

“In the football, there will always be things that we can improve but mentally, I felt that we moved a step higher. For me, that’s the thing that will make the difference on this return phase. Hopefully, we can keep that and show a very ambitious style of play.”

Leicester City’s next Barclays Women’s Super League fixture is at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
