Ahead of this evening’s Derby della Madonnina, AC Milan’s senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic spoke to the media about Fonseca’s future and responded to the recent criticisms of him.

It has been a difficult week for Ibrahimovic, and the Swede has been the target of several criticisms. Milan’s start of the season has been poor and alongside Paulo Fonseca, Ibra has been slated for the team’s poor performances.

Gerry Cardinale’s vessel has also been criticised for his words to the media, stating he is ‘the boss’ when coming to blows with Zvonne Boban. Additionally, there have been suggestions that his relationship with Paulo Fonseca has broken down, and with the Portuguese coach facing the sack, it could play a part in a future decision.

With a game this big ahead of the Rossoneri, he has tried to unite the squad this week, and before the game, he spoke about Fonseca’s future when speaking to DAZN (via Milan News).

Within this week did anything bother you?

“No, nothing serious. Criticism is part of the job and responsibility. People talk about my role but it doesn’t matter, only Milan matters. Then it’s not like I can make jokes because not everyone understands jokes, so I have to be careful.”

Anything you want to add?

“One works. It’s a demanding job, I like it. The important thing is the team and Milan, not me. It’s not a one-man show like I said. For the moment the team situation we have overcome this moment before and we will do it again this time. Personally, I don’t mind things against me, I lived with criticism for years as a player. Then you carry on with what I’m doing. It doesn’t bother me, on the contrary: it charges me and gives me more gas to do more.”
