Manchester United teenager Harry Amass could finally be in line to make his debut with the first team following his impressive displays on the youth level.

The Red Devils are set to resume their Europa League campaign this Thursday when they take on Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Round of 16. Sadly for Ruben Amorim, he’s travelling to Spain with a depleted squad that only contains 18 players, including 15 outfielders.

Harry Maguire became the latest addition to the injury list, joining Altay Bayindir, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount, in addition to Lisandro Martinez whose campaign is already over after suffering a devastating ACL injury. Moreover, Chido Obi-Martin is ineligible to play in Europe as he wasn’t added to the list.

But while the 17-year-old striker won’t be available, another Man Utd teenager could steal the headlines if he manages to make his club debut. This is of course Harry Amass who has been added to the travelling squad due to the hefty number of absentees.

The London native is a 17-year-old left-back who started his career at Watford before joining Man Utd’s academy in 2023. After spending his first campaign with the U18 side, he was been mostly with the U21s this term.

Will Harry Amas make his Man United Debut against Sociedad?

Manchester Evening News’ Josh Holland deemed him ‘more than ready’ after watching what he described as a ‘masterclass’ performance in February 2024.

“Amass started at left-back with James Scanlon ahead of him. He fulfilled all of his defensive responsibilities down the left rather well and bombed forward along the touchline when Scanlon came inside,” recalled Holland.

“There was one moment when he showed incredible upper strength to storm past two challenges before playing a teasing ball.”

So with only 15 outfield players in the squad, there’s a large chance that Amorim could deploy Amass at some point during the second half. He could come in as a replacement for Patrick Dorgu in the left wingback spot, since Mazraoui could be deployed at the back due to the defensive emergency.

Man Utd travelling squad:

Goalkeepers: Andre Onana, Elyh Harrison, Dermot Mee.

Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven, Victor Lindelof, Leny Yoro, Patrick Dorgu, Harry Amass.

Midfielders: Casemiro, Toby Collyer, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes.

Attackers: Alejandro Garnacho, Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund.
