As was frequently reported throughout the January transfer window, Manchester United would cash in on the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo if substantial offers arrived.
Made aware of his availability, Napoli were the first side to test United’s resolve with a £40 million bid for the Argentine in the winter window. However, it was swiftly rebuffed due to it not meeting their valuation.
It’s also been claimed that Chelsea are confident they’ve laid the groundwork for a summer deal after holding talks with Garnacho in recent weeks. They never formally materialised their interest by sending a proposal United’s way but may well be planning to do so upon the culmination of the term.
Should that be the case, the Red Devils are still said to be willing to facilitate the exit of their academy graduate, whose sale would generate pure profit for the club and pose as a significant Profit and Sustainability boost.
That’s because reinforcements will be imperative for Ruben Amorim this summer if his side has any chance of competing amongst the European places in 2025/2026 – and they already have one defensive target in mind.

In hopes of further stabilising their struggling defence, United have set their sights on a move for Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, as per GiveMeSport.
The full-back, valued at £41m by Transfermarkt, is contracted to the Blaugrana until 2028 and has been pinpointed as an ideal option to occupy the left wing-back role in Amorim’s newly implemented system – despite Patrick Dorgu completing a move from Lecce at the beginning of the month, though he was bizarrely deployed on the right flank in his debut.
As for the expected departure of Garnacho, United would be well within their rights to increase his price tag if he oversees a prolific end to the campaign. He’s already been hailed as one of Amorim’s most ‘impactful’ forwards after notching eight goals and assisting a further six in 37 appearances.
