German transfer insider Christian Falk has just put out the news that Chelsea are “still in talks” to sign Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund next summer.

He refers to Napoli interest in buying the player this month, but indicates they would be put off by the player’s fee. Adeyemi can play in any attacking position but is usually used out wide to make the most of his speed. He has a disappointing return of 11 goals in 53 Bundesliga games for Dortmund.

Chelsea have been linked with him a few times, including last summer where some reported he was their “main target”. The way Falk phrases his Tweet seems to indicate this is a continuation of that. Adeyemi’s current contract runs until the summer of 2027, so Dortmund will likely be willing sellers this summer if they can’t secure him on a longer deal.

That interest was mentioned again last month, but Falk is a better source than most of these links.

Chelsea fans unsure on Adeyemi links for a number of reasons

Karim Adeyemi celebrates a goal for Germany.

Fans aren’t too happy with these links – but why?

Well firstly Adeyemi is seen as a talented player who is a poor finisher. That’s something fans are already sick of.

Secondly, he has a bad injury history. That’s another thing Chelsea supporter are sick of.

Thirdly, there are just plain doubts about his overall ability. Is this guy going to take us to the next level? Is he a cut above what we already have? Or is he similar in level to the attacking options already at Enzo Maresca’s disposal?

This would not be a very popular move with fans if it happens, at least initially, we can tell you that now. Of course, a few goals changes everything, but this is not going to be a vote winner, that’s for sure.
