Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is ready to make as many as nine changes to his starting eleven against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that Yann Sommer and Yann Bisseck could be the only players to keep their places from the weekend.
Inter returned to action from the international break on Saturday. They did so with a 5-0 win away to Hellas Verona in Serie A.
But the Nerazzurri are not waiting long to play once again.
Tomorrow evening, Inter will be back in action in the Champions League. They host RB Leipzig in their fifth match of the “league phase” of the competition.
Inter are in a strong position to qualify directly for the round of sixteen of the Champions League. They drew with Manchester City then beat Red Star Belgrade, Young Boys, and Arsenal in their first four matches.
Three points against RB Leipzig would virtually see Inter put one foot in the knockouts. However, winning tomorrow will hardly be easy.
Inzaghi will be thinking about squad rotation and keeping his players fresh as he selects his team.
Inter have numerous important matches on the way after tomorrow.
These include Serie A outings against Fiorentina and Parma, and another Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen.
Therefore, Inzaghi will certainly make a slew of changes to the team that beat Verona over the weekend.
These will certainly include the returns of Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu to the starting eleven. The pair are back available from illness and injury respectively.
Martinez’s and Calhanoglu’s returns are a major boost for Inzaghi.
Then, Denzel Dumfries and Federico Dimarco should start on the flanks in tomorrow’s match.
In attack, Mehdi Taremi is set to partner Inter captain Martinez.
And in defense, Benjamin Pavard will return to the starting eleven after not featuring against Verona.
