Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta feels that the blasphemy allegations against Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez are “irritating” and “anachronistic.”
Marotta spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, ahead of this evening’s top-of-the-table Serie A clash with Napoli, via FCInterNews. He hit out at the ongoing media soap opera around Martinez.
Inter Milan take on Napoli in Serie A this evening. And today’s match could be a title-decider, pitting the teams first and second in the table.
However, there has been an unwelcome distraction for Inter in the buildup to the match.
Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez has faced allegations of having used blasphemous language in the aftermath of Inter’s Derby d’Italia loss to Juventus last month.
The Argentine did not receive a suspension for the alleged outburst. That is because the Sporting Justice in Italy did not have any audio evidence of such language.
However, there is still an ongoing investigation by the Italian FA into the matter.
Meanwhile, reports today revealed that this investigation is the result of a complaint by an organization of Juventus supporters.
Inter President Beppe Marotta commented on the allegations that “I wouldn’t have spoken about this but I feel obliged to answer.”
“We are in a sickening situation,” he continued. “It’s as if Lautaro has committed who knows what crime.”

“We believe in his version of events. Then as a man of the sporting world you have to respect for the authorities.”
“We accept the procedure and we will co-operate with it.”
:However, the situation remains anachronistic,” the Inter President hit out.
“Reading the papers, that this process was started by a group of fans.”
“If the authorities only work based in complaints filed, they would need hundreds of people working for them at their disposal.”
“They are doing an excellent job,” said Marotta. “we are at their disposal and we will adapt to whatever the decision will be, while maintaining that we believe in our captain.”
Meanwhile, Marotta also gave his thoughts on Inter’s fixture list and their struggles in some recent big matches.
“Still being in the running in the Champions League is a source of pride for us,” he said.
“But based on the history of this club, it’s not extraordinary. Rather, it’s ordinary.”
“It’s sad to see the other Italian teams go out,” Marotta went on. “You know how the UEFA rankings work, these things cause damage.”
“As far as the head-to-head matches, it’s only part of the statistics,” the Inter President added. “It’s not just the head-to-head matches that count.”
“Today Atalanta stumbled against Venezia. And that shows how our league is full of uncertainty.”
