Provided that the Brazilian international does leave City in a few months the world champions will need to sign a new number-one keeper this summer. Now a new report has named two keepers as potential City targets. Frankly, either player could prove to be a quality signing for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Joan Garcia and Diogo Costa are looming as potential Ederson replacements for Manchester City.

Rob Dawson has reported for ESPN that Manchester City are monitoring several keepers currently. Furthermore, Dawson names FC Porto keeper Diogo Costa and Espanyol’s impressive young keeper Joan Garcia as two players City are monitoring. Dawson also reports that Ederson is eager to pursue a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer. It now seems that it is a question of when Ederson will leave Manchester City not if based on Dawson’s new report.

Either Joan Garcia or Diogo Costa have the potential to be Manchester City’s next number-one keeper.

If you drew up a list of potential replacements for Ederson, Diogo Costa and Joan Garcia would be near the top. Both have shown that they are fine keepers. Joan Garcia has been one of the best keepers in La Liga this season. His shot-stopping is excellent and he is good with his feet. As per Dawson’s report, he has a release clause of €25 million in his current contract. Given his age, potential and talent that’s a bargain for such a quality keeper. There’s merit to City pursuing a move for Garcia this summer.

Diogo Costa is the more expensive option of the two. But he is arguably more proven than Joan Garcia. Costa has been a constant for FC Porto and has regularly performed well for club and country. He is one of the premier keepers in the game and would be a good addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad if Ederson needs to be replaced.

But it now appears that it’s down to a choice between Joan Garcia and Diogo Costa for Manchester City to replace Ederson. Either keeper would be a good signing. Now it is a wait to see who City move for this summer.
