‘It is good that it did not happen’: OH Leuven’s Ezechiel Banzuzi on missing out on move to West Ham and ending up at RB Leipzig

In an interview with De Volkskrant, OH Leuven midfielder Ezechiel Banzuzi has revealed that he did want to leave in January to join Premier League side West Ham. However, the player remained in Belgium and has now agreed a summer move to the Bundesliga and RB Leipzig instead. Of the move to West Ham, Banzuzi said ‘I wanted to leave, that was on my mind. But in retrospect it is good that it did not happen. West Ham is not doing so well, it is not the type of football I want to play‘.
Playing for a more attacking team is what convinced Banzuzi to join the Bundesliga side. The player, who idolises both Yaya Toure and Paul Pogba, is looking forward to playing with a team that wants to go forward. Banzuzi has been a standout performer for OH Leuven this season The 20-year-old has scored three goals and grabbed five assists for the side this season. During the interview he also revealed how he is targeting a World Cup appearance with the Dutch national team. Joining RB Leipzig will certainly give him a greater chance of being called up to the first team, having made numerous appearances for the youth sides.
