Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries will start on the flanks for Inter Milan in tomorrow’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They anticipate that the wingbacks will be among a raft of changes to the Nerazzurri starting eleven.
Inter returned to action from the international break on Saturday. They did so with a 5-0 win away to Hellas Verona in Serie A.
But the Nerazzurri are not waiting long to play once again.
Tomorrow evening, Inter will be back in action in the Champions League. They host RB Leipzig in their fifth match of the “league phase” of the competition.
Inter are in a strong position to qualify directly for the round of sixteen of the Champions League. They drew with Manchester City then beat Red Star Belgrade, Young Boys, and Arsenal in their first four matches.
Three points against RB Leipzig would virtually see Inter put one foot in the knockouts. However, winning tomorrow will hardly be easy.
Inzaghi will be thinking about squad rotation and keeping his players fresh as he selects his team.
Inter have numerous important matches on the way after tomorrow.
These include Serie A outings against Fiorentina and Parma, and another Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen.
Therefore, Inzaghi will certainly make a slew of changes to the team that beat Verona over the weekend.
Two changes that are absolutely certain from Inzaghi will be in the wide areas.
That is an area of the pitch where the Inter coach often likes to rotate his team.
And tomorrow’s match will be no exception.
On Saturday, Matteo Darmian started at right-wingback for Inter, and Carlos Augusto got the nod on the left.
Federico Dimarco, usually a regular in Inter’s starting eleven, got the night off. He did not feature either from the start or from the bench.
Similarly, Denzel Dumfries also did not play on Saturday.
It was Tajon Buchanan who instead came on late in Saturday’s match. The Canadian was making his long-awaited return from injury.
However, having kept Dimarco and Dumfries fresh over the weekend, Inzaghi will certainly start both tomorrow against Leipzig.
