Italy are planning a special pre-match tribute to the legendary Gigi Riva before their Nations League match against France on Sunday evening, which will be played in front of a sell-out San Siro crowd.
Riva, who died in January, would have turned 80 this month. To honour his legacy, there will be a video of his best moments in an Azzurri shirt shown around the screens of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the San Siro surface will temporarily be transformed into a type of canvas, which will allow for animations to be projected onto the pitch, as well as a light show from the touchlines.
The events will all take place before kick-off, at which point Italy will play their final match of the Nations League group stages.
The Azzurri have already qualified for the Natoins League quarter-finals after picking up four wins and one draw from their first five matches into the competition, including Thursday night’s 1-0 victory away against Belgium.
Italy-France will be attended by an estimated crowd of around 68,000.
