Chelsea’s pursuit of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has left Jamie Carragher with a big question about the club’s recruitment.
There’s less than two weeks of the window remaining and this is usually the stage where things start to pick up in regards to transfers.
The Blues have so far had a quieter January than expected, with Renato Veiga’s loan move to Juventus the only outgoing to date, whilst Chelsea have also agreed a €15m with Strasbourg for Mamadou Sarr, who will join in the summer.
Chelsea are looking to strengthen in the attacking areas and are in need of a striker as an alternative to Nicolas Jackson, whilst wingers are also being looked at in the absence of Mykhailo Mudryk.
The Blues and Napoli have been strongly linked with a move for Garnacho, with United said to value the winger at £60m.
Chelsea and United are reportedly considering a swap deal between the 20-year-old and Christopher Nkunku, although the likelihood of that seems slim.

The Blues haven’t been afraid to splash the cash since the takeover by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital and they have broken the British transfer record twice on Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
Carragher hasn’t been one to shy away from criticising the Chelsea ownership, and their pursuit of Garnacho has left the Liverpool legend with one question.
“Seeing Chelsea pursuing the likes of central midfielder Douglas Luiz, of Juventus, and Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho begs the question: When will the big money transfer splurge end and the return on the massive investment begin?,” he told The Telegraph.
Carragher does have a point in that regard with the Blues arguably yet to see a major return on the vast amount of money they have invested on players over the past few windows.

Maresca was asked about Garnacho in his pre-match press conference and insisted he was happy with the current wingers at the club.
It feels like this could be a transfer saga which runs right up until deadline day on 3rd February, and many Chelsea fans are hoping it’s a move the club don’t pull off.
