Former West Ham star Joe Cole has discussed the transfer saga surrounding Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, who has been linked with a number of clubs in recent times.

CaughtOffside have previously reported on Ferguson being looked at by West Ham, Arsenal and others, and it now seems Cole is optimistic he could be convinced to make the move to the London Stadium.

The Republic of Ireland international is a top talent on his day, though he’s undoubtedly suffered a dip in form in recent times, so it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

Ferguson’s next move is surely crucial, as he needs to make sure he chooses the right club and a manager who trusts him and who can help him to get back to his best.

Discussing Ferguson’s future on The Dressing Room podcast, Cole said: “Listen, if I’m his agent I’m saying to him go to West Ham. You’re not going to get into the Brighton team. You’re going to take a step up and play, you need games, you’re a young kid you need games, come and play for West Ham, it hasn’t worked for Fullkrug yet, go there.”

It certainly seems like West Ham would make more sense for Ferguson right now, as it’s hard to see him starting a lot of games at a big club like Arsenal.

In the long run, though, the 20-year-old looks like he has it in him to go right to the very top, so a temporary move to West Ham to get himself back in form could be a good first step.

The Hammers have just hired Graham Potter as their new manager, and he’s someone who’ll know Ferguson well from his time in charge of Brighton.

That could make this the perfect fit, so it will be interesting to see if it works out.
