Several Rennes players, including recruits from last summer, will reportedly train away from Jorge Sampaoli’s first-team squad. Le Parisien reports this Thursday that the struggling Brittany Ligue 1 club has decided to toughen up and trim down the Argentine’s training squad as Stade Rennais’ season spirals out of control. Rennes have lost their last two Ligue 1 games. On Wednesday, they crashed out of the Coupe de France RO32 against City Football Group-owned Ligue 2 side Troyes. Les Rouge et Noir host Stade Brestois 29 this Saturday.
Le Parisien reports that at least five senior players will be put in the ‘loft’ until they eventually leave Rennes in the winter transfer window. The outlet understands that French defensive midfielder Baptiste Santamaria and goalkeeper Gauthier Gallon have been told by Sporting director Frederic Massara to train separately from the first-team squad. Rennes marquee summer signing Jota, who is not part of Sampaoli’s plans, former Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara and Denmark international midfielder Albert Grønbæk are also reportedly set to be put in the ‘loft’.
