Borussia Mönchengladbach attacker Grant-Leon Ranos received a six-month loan-out on Wednesday. The 21-year-old will spent the duration of the season with 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Ranos’ loan to the Pfälzer Red Devils – as confirmed by Kicker – does not include a purchase option.
Since signing from the Bayern youth academy in July of 2023, the 17-times-capped Armenia international has made 11 top flight appearances over the past two seasons. Ranos was tapped for two brief relief shifts under BMG trainer Gerardo Seoane this year.
Prior to signing with the foals, Ranos scored 23 goals in 45 games for the Bayern reserves. Lautern, dealing with injury issues afflicting lead striker Ragnar Ache and very disappointing performances from back-up Jannik Mause, may give Ranos a run-out at center-forward.
“Grant is a very talented player, and it is important for his further development that he can gain match practice at a high sporting level,” BMG sporting Virkus noted in a club statement. “For this reason, we have jointly decided in favor of a loan to the current fifth-placed team in the second division.” “Grant has a lot of talent and can be used in a variety of offensive roles.” FCK managing director Thomas Hengen added. “This gives us additional flexibility. He will not only fuel the existing competition in our squad with his eye for goal and his finishing skills, but also give our squad more depth.”
In another piece of transfer news involving Lautern and a top flight German side, winger Faride Alidou will be moving to the 2. Bundesliga side on a permanent basis. Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed the Germany U21 international’s sale on Thursday.
Alidou was once of German football’s hottest commodities. Eintracht Frankfurt won the race to sign the Hamburg-native away from HSV on a free in January of 2022. The striker was nevertheless never really able to establish himself with the RheinMainAdler due to the competitive situation at his position.
Loaned out to Köln during the second last season, the 23-year-old ended up scoring four Bundesliga goals for the relegated Geißböcke. He helped his loan club beat his parent club with what would prove the match winner in a 2-0 victory over Frankfurt on match-day 20.
Alidou’s current loan stint with Serie A side Hellas Verona was cut short in order to facilitate the move to Lautern. The transfer fee was not divulged by either club. Alidou maintains an estimated market value of €2m in the latest transfermarkt listings.
“Faride has proven in his career so far that he can be used flexibly on both flanks,” Hengen noted in a club statement on the Thursday presser. ”He is also a fast player with strong dribbling skills. With these qualities, he can be a valuable addition to our squad.”
“When the opportunity arose for me to return to Germany and join 1. FC Kaiserslautern, I didn’t have to think about it for long,” Alidou himself added ”FCK is a big club with an impressive tradition and great fans.”
