Bayern left little to be desired in their commanding 6-0 victory in their friendly at Red Bull Salzburg on Monday evening and gained plenty of confidence for the start of the second half of the season away at Borussia Mönchengladbach this Saturday. “We did well given the short preparation period we had. A short break now, then it's back to business on Saturday,” said a satisfied Konrad Laimer. Head coach Vincent Kompany could only agree: “We won, that's always good. And no injuries, that's the most important thing.” fcbayern.com has compiled all the reaction to the game.

Reaction to the friendly at Red Bull Salzburg

Christoph Freund (sporting director, before the match): “The break was short, but we were able to recover for a few days, which was important. You can tell that the boys are back with fresh energy and passion. We've got good energy levels and are looking forward to getting going again. Manuel Neuer is on his way back. I hope he'll be back on Saturday, he's already partially trained again. It looks pretty good. With Sven Ulreich, it's all about workload management. Jamal Musiala is a bit ill, that's a precautionary measure. We hope he'll be back on Saturday. Serge Gnabry is on his way back, he's already trained with us, but we don't want to risk anything today. It's possible that he'll be back on Saturday."

Vincent Kompany: “We won, that's always good. And no injuries, that's the most important thing. It was good for fitness; we didn't have a long break and we didn't feel that the team needed a long time at the start to come up to speed again. We're now looking forward to the Bundesliga again.”

Thomas Müller: “A friendly is there to get back into the rhythm, it's not primarily about the result. Of course, we'll still take a 6-0 win as a positive. We'll certainly take another look at the way we played. We know what we need to do to play a good game in the Bundesliga at the weekend. Nothing has happened today that would deter us from our path, but it's also not the case that Saturday's game is already in the bag after today.”

Konrad Laimer: "It always takes time to get going again after a break, but it was a good test. We got into our game well straight away. We put in a confident performance over 90 minutes and scored the goals we needed. With that said, we could have done one or two things a bit better. But we did well for the short preparation period we had. We only have this week to train and have to make sure that we get the tactics, the physicality and the fitness in. We're fit and ready to go.”

Reaction from the Red Bull Salzburg camp

Thomas Letsch (head coach): “Of course we had all imagined it slightly differently. I said beforehand that we wanted to show that we were up to something – at least we were able to do that. Bayern were two leagues above us in every respect. The game showed, in a tough way, that we still have a lot of work to do. Nevertheless, we're talking about Bayern Munich: a team that not only has the ambition to become champions of Germany but also win the Champions League and has fierce quality.”

Alexander Schlager (goalkeeper): “It shouldn’t be forgotten that we only started training four days ago and then we immediately play against Germany's record champions – it's not the easiest of tasks. There's a lot we can take away from today. There were also a few moments where, if we had been more courageous, something might have been possible. Of course, a 6-0 defeat is no fun, but there were a lot of things we can learn from, aiding our preparation for the new year.”
