Kylian Mbappe ready for his first Madrid derby – ‘Going to do everything to win’ | OneFootball

Matchweek 23 of La Liga will treat fans to one of the blockbuster encounters of the season as Real Madrid host local rivals Atletico Madrid in a top-of-the-table clash.

Real Madrid are just one point clear of Atletico Madrid at the top and will be eager to stretch their lead whereas the Rojiblancos will be intent on usurping the No. 1 position on the table.

Naturally, there is a lot of excitement within both camps heading into the derby and it will be a special occasion for a certain Kylian Mbappe as he faces Atletico for the first time ever as a Real Madrid player.

The French superstar missed the reverse fixture earlier in the season due to an injury and as such will be stepping out at the Santiago Bernabeu tomorrow in his first Madrid derby.

Mbappe excited and ready to win

Ahead of the big game against Atletico Madrid, Mbappe spoke to Real Madrid’s official media channels and admitted he is excited for his first derby experience, while making it clear that the team’s objective is to win.

“It is going to be a great match, and it is very important. It is my first time playing in this game. I am excited to play and help the team, and I hope we win,” said the 26-year-old forward.

Continuing, he added: “I always intend to play to win. I am sure it is going to be a very important match for us and for all Madrid fans. The objective is always the same: to win.

“Especially when we play against Atletico, given the situation in the league with them being close to us. We must win, and we will do everything we can to win.”

The French forward, who has scored 22 goals this season, stressed on the importance of the fans for tomorrow’s match, saying:

“They are always with us. I am sure there will be a great atmosphere at the Bernabéu, as always. I hope they help us win and that we show we are the best team.”

Mbappe will come up against some of his compatriots tomorrow such as Antoine Griezmann and Clement Lenglet when he faces Atletico. Talking about it, he noted:

“I think it is easier to play against people with whom you have a good relationship because they know it is not personal. We are playing to defend our colours.

“After the match, we are friends, but during the game, they know I will do everything for Real Madrid. We must win.”
