LA Galaxy need a win in Portland before their season goes 'Timber'

Very few people, if anyone, predicted the defending MLS Cup winners to start the 30th regular season with three straight losses. A 0-0-3 record to open up the 2025 campaign is a shock to even the Los Angeles Galaxy players and front office.
After a 4-1 win on Wednesday at home against Herediano, hope has been restored. At least somewhat.
Now that the LA Galaxy have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Concacf Champions tournament, they looked prime and ready to return to the their winning ways against the rest of Major League Soccer.
Because of their three losses and their -76 goal differential, the LA Galaxy are currently in last place entering this weekend. Winning Match #4 of the season would set themselves up the same record as their opponent, the Portland Timbers.
Both teams would then be tied at 1-0-3 and three points each in the Western Conference standings. Sporting Kansas City and the Houston Dynamo also are winless thus far. They play tough opponents in LAFC and the Seattle Sounders, respectively.
In scoring at least two more goals than Portland and if both Sporting and the Dyanmo lose, the Los Angeles Galaxy could jump from 15th to 12th easily.
Real Salt Lake is the only other team in the Western Conference with less than four points entering this weekend. They host FC Dallas. If they lose, the Galaxy could potentially leapfrog them, too, and sit at 11th in the West.
Thus, this season is far from over if the Los Angeles Galaxy can win in Portland against the Timbers on Sunday. To do so, all hands (and legs) on deck will be called.
Julian Aude, Miguel Berry, Gabriel Pec and Christian Ramirez all scored last Wednesday against Herediano. Pec is the only member of the LA Galaxy to score during the regular season so far.
Multiple scores will help the Galaxy win and make up some ground with their negative goal differential (-6) and current position in the Western Conference standings.
