Lazio Stalwart Suffers Injury Relapse – Marco Baroni Forced To Change Plans

Having only recently made his return to the squad following a long-term injury, Lazio defender Patric has reportedly suffered a setback.
The 31-year-old has been out with an ankle injury since the start of the year. Many feared his condition would require surgery, but after undergoing treatment in Barcelona, the tests suggested he could be naturally healed. In recent weeks, the Spaniard rejoined his teammates in training and earned a call-up for the weekend trip to Venezia, albeit he remained on the bench.
But according to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Patric has suffered a relapse. As the source explains, a case of bone edema has been detected concerning the same ankle. This condition is characterized by noticeable swelling, and it can only be healed through time and rest.
Therefore, Marco Baroni and his technical staff are forced to adopt a more cautious approach when it comes to managing the experienced centre-back. Between now and the end of the season, Patric is expected to become a ‘part-time’ player, alternating between training and periods of rest.
In hindsight, the decision to sign a new defender in the shape of Oliver Provstgaard proved to be a wise call on the club’s part. The young Dane has yet to make an appearance in Lazio colors, but he can be Baroni’s fourth-choice centre-back behind Mario Gila, Alessio Romagnoli and Samuel Gigot, allowing Patric to run on a lighter schedule.
