Byram was substituted within an hour on Wednesday evening - and Farke has revealed that he could miss Saturday's game.

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has revealed that Sam Byram could miss Saturday afternoon's clash against Blackburn Rovers.

Speaking to Football League World after Wednesday evening's game against Luton Town, Farke confirmed that the full-back was withdrawn due to a hamstring issue.

This would be a blow for the Whites, who have richly benefitted from having the experienced defender at their disposal in recent games in the absence of Junior Firpo, who has been serving a three-game ban.

Firpo was suspended for violent conduct after the Millwall game, with the FA handing him a retrospective ban.

In his absence, Byram has been able to step up to the plate, keeping two clean sheets in the three games he's played in during Firpo's suspension.

He has also been an asset going forward, setting up Manor Solomon's second goal against Swansea City, and also scoring last night against Luton.

Last night was an enjoyable one for Leeds fans, with Byram scoring the opening in the 10th minute, before Joel Piroe added a second shortly before the interval to pile more misery on a struggling Hatters side.

Dan James added a third late on to seal the point - and it was a night of very few lows for the Whites - who have regained their place at the top of the table with their victory.

The one downside of last night for Leeds was Byram's withdrawal, with the full-back being replaced by Max Wober in the 59th minute.

Giving an update on the 31-year-old's situation after the game, Farke told FLW: "He felt a little problem in his hamstring. Hopefully it's early enough that he gave the sign to be substituted. He slipped a little bit.

"We have to wait for a further assessment. It could be the turnaround is a little bit too quick.

"I hope it's not too serious because he was excellent today. Hopefully, Sam is ready to go again on Saturday."

Whether he will return in time for this weekend's clash at Ewood Park remains to be seen.

Leeds United will be glad to have Junior Firpo back

Firpo will be available for Saturday's game against Blackburn - and this is a real boost - with Byram a potential doubt for this game.

The former will have a point to prove after his conduct at The Den - and redemption needs to be on his mind.

He will also be looking to make up for lost time, as he looks to perform well for Leeds and potentially put himself in the shop window ahead of January.

With his contract expiring next year, it's vitally important for him that he performs as well as he can, so he can have quite a few options on the table in the summer.

It would be difficult to see the player putting pen to paper on a new deal before the end of the season - because he will surely be wanting to compete at the top level.
