Liverpool face a crucial 2025 summer transfer window with the future of key players like Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold up in the air. The trio could walk away from Anfield, leaving a gaping hole in Arne Slot’s team.

The Reds also need to reinforce areas like left-back and defensive midfield, but more importantly, the centre-forward position.

Darwin Nunez has been woeful again this season. It is time the Reds cut ties with the former Benfica striker.

A club of this stature should have a lethal centre-forward spearheading the attack, and the Liverpool hierarchy reportedly want one of Europe’s most in-form forwards to lead the line next season.

Per the report, the former Manchester City man was on Liverpool’s wishlist last summer. He was at the top of it, but nothing materialised as he moved to Madrid, where he has registered 22 goals and five assists in 43 appearances for Los Colchoneros this season.

Alvarez would be a massive step up from Nunez, who has failed to catch fire since his £85 million move three years ago. Nunez has received ample time to adapt to the Premier League but has yet to find his footing.

Meanwhile, Alvarez recorded 20 goals and nine assists in 67 Premier League appearances. He brings the work rate, grit, and composed finishing that will take this Liverpool team to the next level.

The report claims that internally, he is viewed as someone who could be the perfect fit for Slot.

However, it is worth noting that it will not be so easy for Liverpool to take Alvarez from Atletico a year after they paid £81.5 million for his services.

Liverpool also have other targets, including Newcastle United hitman Alexander Isak and RB Leipzig talent Benjamin Sesko.
