Paris Saint-Germain started off by taking a short-term approach with Xavi Simons, sending him back to RB Leipzig on loan for another season. But things became much more clear earlier this year—Leipzig ended up signing him permanently.

As part of the deal, PSG included a sell-on clause, giving them a chance to cash in again if Simons moves in the future.

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United is currently slightly ahead of Manchester City in the race to land Simons next summer.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the transfer is now official: Simons has permanently joined Leipzig from PSG. The total package is worth €80 million, including add-ons, with an initial €55 million fee and that sell-on clause built into the deal.

Romano also mentioned that Simons’ contract runs through June 2027, though that does not necessarily guarantee he will stay that long. Several top clubs are already keeping a close eye on him ahead of a potential summer move.

What’s the latest on Xavi Simons?

TEAMtalk says Manchester United’s top priorities this summer are signing a new striker and bringing in a No. 10, with Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap at the top of the list. The club wants to move quickly on both deals, even with financial pressure from PSR rules.

If the move for Cunha doesn’t happen, United could turn their attention to Xavi Simons. One advantage of Simons is his versatility — he can play on either wing or through the middle. But for now, the focus remains firmly on Cunha and Delap.

A recent Bild report reveals that RB Leipzig needs to raise around €100 million (£85 million/$114 million) and believes it can do that by selling Simons and 21-year-old Benjamin Sesko.

Inside the club, there’s also a belief that Simons’ €12 million (£10 million/$14 million) salary doesn’t reflect his up-and-down performances.
