Lautaro Martinez has avoided a serious muscle injury ahead of the second leg of the Champions League semifinals between Inter Milan and Barcelona.
The club confirm that the Argentine has suffered an “elongation” of the flexor muscles in his left thigh after he received medical tests today.
Lautaro Martinez had to come off at halftime of Wednesday’s Champions League clash between Inter and Barcelona.
The 28-year-old had started the match. That was hardly a surprise, as he is Inter’s captain, and has started all but one of the Nerazzurri’s matches since the March international break.
However, that relentless schedule evidently took its toll on Martinez.
The Inter captain indicated discomfort during the first half of Wednesday’s Champions League semifinal first leg against Barcelona.
This was particularly the case right before halftime.
And Martinez did not emerge with the rest of the team for the second half. Mehdi Taremi replaced him in attack for Inter.

Today, Lautaro Martinez underwent tests with Inter’s medical staff.
And the club confirm that these did not show any serious muscle injury to the Argentine.
Rather, Martinez has suffered an elongation to his left thigh flexor muscles.
This is certainly a better prognosis than if Martinez had suffered a strain or tear. That would have undoubtedly ruled the Inter captain out for the second leg against Barcelona.
What is clear is that Martinez will not be available against Hellas Verona in Serie A tomorrow.
However, there is uncertainty regarding Martinez’s condition for the second leg against Barcelona on Tuesday.
The Inter captain still has a few days in which to recover. And without a serious injury, there would always be the possibility of Martinez making a speedy return for such an important match.
