Manchester United’s medical team have been questioned in their role in Mason Mount’s constant injury relapses.
The Englishman has been heavily praised by new coach Ruben Amorim and he has talked up the importance of having him in the squad.
Mount has made four appearances in the Premier League under Amorim but disaster struck last Sunday at the Etihad when the former Chelsea man had to be replaced early in the first half through injury.
Amorim later stated in his pre-match press conference ahead of the tie with Bournemouth on Sunday that Mount will be out for a “long time” once again.
The 25 year old has taken to social media to claim how “devastated” he is by the latest setback with numerous fans already losing patience with him.
Nonetheless, speaking to Football Insider, former United scout Mick Brown has laid the blame at the feet of the medical team.
“Questions have got to be asked about his situation. You have to wonder why the medical team can’t seem to get it right with him,” Brown said.
“Ever since he’s been at United, he’s had injury problems. He comes back, plays ten minutes, then he’s forced off again, so why are they rushing him?”
The latest setback is already the sixth in barely a season and a half at Old Trafford as he has never been able to put a run of games together.
Brown claims the situation is even more frustrating as he knows he is one of Amorim’s favoured players.
“It’s a very difficult situation because Amorim sees a lot in him as a first-team player. It’s a massive blow for United as well because he’s a player Amorim likes and he would be a part of his first-choice starting XI if he could stay fit.”
He also commented that he hopes the club will do all it can to support both Mount and Shaw in their latest injury relapses.
Victor Lindelof seems another player to add to the list as he left the match against Tottenham on Thursday visibly distraught after only recently returning from injury himself.
