The January transfer window will be Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s first opportunity to mold the squad according to his vision. However, the heavy lifting will come next summer, and the Portuguese boss has a Paris Saint-Germain player on his radar.
As of now, all the focus is on Marcus Rashford after Amorim’s decision to leave Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of Manchester United’s group for last Sunday’s derby against Manchester City has added to speculation about the forward’s future at the club.
Last summer, the Red Devils secured Manuel Ugarte from PSG, who is now finding good form after reuniting with Amorim. Nonetheless, Amorim has his eyes on another former Sporting Lisbon player currently in the French capital.

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Manchester United continue to show strong interest in Nuno Mendes, whose current contract with the Ligue 1 side expires in 2026.
While PSG are eager to extend his contract, Mendes prefers to wait before making any decisions, especially with interest from top clubs. He shares the same agency as Amorim, who coached him between 2020 and 2022 at Sporting Lisbon, so PSG are aware of his current situation.
Mendes joined PSG in 2022 and he’s 98 matches across all competitions while scoring five goals and recording 13 assists for the French giants in these last three years. The report doesn’t reveal how much Manchester United are willing to pay, but Transfermarkt puts the player’s transfer value at €55 million.
