Newcastle 1-2 Brighton

That's a wrap for today's FA Cup liveblog. We'll be bringing you the latest on the quarter final draw very shortly.

UNITED ARE OUT! Zirkzee misses his spot kick.

Fulham on the cusp of the quarter finals as Robertson is their latest player to send Onana diving the wrong way. 4-3

LENO DENIES LINDELOF! It's still 3-3 in the shootout.

Another experienced head steps up to draw Fulham level as Willian puts a cheeky finish to Onana's left. 3-3

It's 3-2 to United now as Casemiro drills into the lefthand corner and sending Leno the other way.

Fulham looking to draw level with Berge lining up and he rifles a powerful one into the roof of the net. 2-2

Dalot taking the next United spot kick and converts comfortably with Leno already moving to the opposite side before the ball is struck. 2-1

Jiménez stepping up for Fulham in front of United's vociferous fans, staggers his run-up and wrong-foots Onana. 1-1

First penalty in front of the Stretford End is a United one from Bruno Fernandes, who sends Leno the wrong way. 1-0

PENALTIES!

We're headed to a shootout for the second time in this FA Cup weekend as neither team can snatch a winner.

CHANCE!

Willian takes the ensuing free kick but it's tame enough for Onana to save from distance. There's only one added minute left to play.

We're in the final minute of extra time as Fulham have a free kick which Willian will take.

CHANCE!

Real end-to-end stuff now as Sessegnon tests Onana with an effort but he's denied.

CHANCE!

At the other end, Garnacho continues to show a goal threat with a strike from outside the box which curls off target.

CHANCE!

Fulham out the traps at the start of this half as Smith Rowe tries to tee up Reed in the box but Heaven gets a block in before the flag goes up for offside.

SECOND HALF UNDERWAY!

We're back to it again at Old Trafford.

HALF-TIME!

Still nothing between the teams after another 15 minutes' action. United enjoying the chances but they are definitely showing signs of fatigue, understandably after 105+ minutes.

CHANCE!

And just like that, they lay siege to Fulham's goal! Obi tries to place a right-footed effort from a tight angle and forces Leno to palm it over the crossbar.

United's levels look like they're starting to sap as we enter one minute's added time at the end of first-half extra time.

CHANCE!

Garnacho continues to cause Fulham's defence problems with a surging run before firing into the side netting

FIRST HALF KICKS OFF!

We're back underway in extra time. Whose name will be in the quarter final draw?

FULL TIME!

United and Fulham still deadlocked after 90 minutes so we're headed into extra time for the second time today.

CHANCE!

That really should have been it for United as Obi puts the ball wide of Leno's lefthand post with the goalkeeper off his line.

CHANCE!

United have their own chance to win it as Obi gets the better of Bassey and rides a challenge from the defender, who manages to put him off as he drags a shot wide.

CHANCE!

Smith Rowe sweeps an effort from just outside the box but Onana is down to his right to tip it away.

We're now into eight added minutes at Old Trafford. Will there be a late winner or are we set for another round of extra-time?

CHANCE!

ZIrkzee wins a free kick which Fernandes takes but Maguire's header from it is weak and saved well by Leno.

The pace of the game has really slowed despite both teams needing to get a winner. Garnacho looking lively for United but will that be enough?

GOAL! Manchester United 1-1 Fulham

It's Bruno Fernandes, who else? Dalot fires a low cross to the United captain, who sent a shot spinning into Leno's net. We're all-square again at Old Trafford!

CHANCE!

Pereira dances through the United defence and looks set to test Onana but De Ligt comes across with a really good sliding interception.

United sending on more fresh legs with Casemiro and Obi replacing Eriksen and Højlund

CHANCE!

Mazraoui sends a header goalward but it's not troubling Leno, who collects comfortably.

Changes for both teams with Smith Rowe replacing Traoré for Fuham while United are sending on Garnacho and Lindelöf coming on for Ugarte and Yoro.

SECOND HALF KICKS OFF!

Can United turn things around in the next 45 minutes?

Let's take a look back at Bassey's opener during the interval. It's a well-taken header but questions still need asking of United's marking from the set piece.

HALF-TIME!

Boos ring out from Old Trafford at the interval as their team trail to Fulham's set piece opener.

GOAL! Man Utd 0-1 Fulham

Right on the stroke of half time, the visitors are ahead! Bassey powering home the opener from a Pereira corner which was flicked on to him.

CHANCE!

That's a really good opening for Fulham as Iwobi whips in a cross for Lukić, who manages to find enough space for a header but sends it off target.

Almost a nervy moment in the United defence as Maguire and Onana aren't on the same page when a cross is sent in from the right but the goalkeeper is able to recover it.

Things starting to simmer a bit with Fulham's players growing increasingly frustrated. It was a similar situation in which they lost the last cup tie at Old Trafford so they'll need to recompose soon.

CHANCE!

United continuing to test Leno with Eriksen's shot palmed away by the goalkeeper from distance.

CHANCE!

The hosts have been building things nicely in the opening stages with De Ligt spraying cross-field passes before Fernandes forces Leno into a low stop.

KICK OFF!

We're officially underway in Sunday's other tie as Manchester United look to edge closer to a Wembley return against Fulham.

There's just enough time to catch your breath before we dive into the next game at Old Trafford.

FULL TIME!

Brighton reach the FA Cup quarter finals for the second time in three seasons courtesy of Welbeck's winner. With so many of the Premier League's big hitters already out of the competition, could they go on and win it?

Time fast running out for Newcastle as they concede a free kick on the edge of Brighton's box. There's another two minutes' added time for them to send this tie to penalties but it doesn't feel like they've got it in them.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-2 Brighton

It's that man again! Welbeck scored the winner in this season's Premier League meeting between the sides and might just have done again in the FA Cup with a sublime chipped finish.

SECOND HALF BEGINS!

Will we see a winner in the next 15 minutes of this tie or is it down to penalties?

HALF-TIME!

Still no breakthrough between the sides but Brighton looking the more promising as the first half of extra time wore on.

CHANCE!

Brighton are in the ascendancy now and unleash a barrage of efforts with Gómez forcing a good save from Dúbravka before the follow-up from Huiffer is deflected wide by Livramento.

CHANCE!

Bruno chests a cross from Willock into Tonali's path in the box but Verbruggen is out quick to deny him.

KICK-OFF!

We're back under for another 30 minutes of action at St James' Park.

FULL TIME!

We're headed to extra time in the North East after Newcastle saw a late winner chalked off.

NO GOAL!

VAR has taken a look at it and Schär's potential winner is ruled out for offside. Referee Anthony Taylor tells the St James' crowd the reason and it's not gone down well as you can imagine.

GOAL! Newcastle 2-1

Just seconds after Lamptey's dismissal, Schär rifles home from the ensuing free kick inside the box with a tidy finish. VAR is going to take a look at it and it'll be tight

RED CARD!

Both teams are down to ten as Lamptey receives his second booking of the game for a foul on Murphy. So we're evenly matched heading into the final minutes.

We're into six minutes of added time at St James'. Will we see a dramatic winner?

Newcastle looking to freshen things up again as Isak makes way. He's been their best player so far so will be interesting to see how they cope with being a man down and without him involved for the remainder of normal time.

The bad news keeps coming for the Magpies as Gordon is now set to miss the EFL Cup final against Liverpool after incurring a three-game ban. It could be overturned but as it stands, that's a huge blow

RED CARD!

Newcastle are down to ten men after Gordon is sent off for a shove into Van Hecke's head

Hürzeler sends on some fresh legs as we enter the final 10 minutes at St James'

CHANCE!

Another good move from Brighton should produce a more clear-cut opportunity as Mitoma tees up Gruda on the edge of the box but he blazes it over the bar.

More changes for Newcastle as they aim to retake the lead

CHANCE!

That was agonisingly close for Eddie Howe's side as Isak feeds Livramento for a delivery into the middle of the area which Willock fails to meet.

CHANCE!

Bruno involved within minutes of coming on as he latches onto Isak's pass for a low cross into the box but it's hooked clear by Lamptey.

Newcastle ring the changes with some fresh legs off the bench.

CHANCE!

The second half starting with a role reversal of the first as Dúbravka denies João Pedro with a good stop

SECOND HALF BEGINS!

We're back to it in the North East with both teams unchanged from the break.

Here's a look back at the leveller from Minteh just before the interval. A really good move in the build-up from Brighton as well.

HALF-TIME!

It's all square at St James' and given how the game's panned out so far, it's a fair reflection. Newcastle starting the stronger but Brighton recovering really well and maintaining their intensity after Isak's penalty. Hopefully we'll see more of the same after the break.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-1 Brighton

Persistence pays off for the Seagulls as Minteh atones for his earlier mistake in conceding the penalty with a tidy finish to haunt his old club. Game on!

GOAL DISALLOWED!

Barnes plays a sublime pass in for Isak to rifle the ball home for a potential second but the flag is immediately up for offside. That would've been some strike to double his tally.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-0 Brighton

Isak makes no mistake from the spot as he rifles the ball into the top lefthand corner of Verbruggen's net. That's a really well-taken penalty.

PENALTY!

Livramento attempts to play the ball in the box before one-time Magpies player Yankuba Minteh takes him out needlessly. Isak will take the ensuing penalty kick.

Brighton also starting strongly as they launch a counter attack before the cross is cut out by Lewis Miley. This game really has started at an intense pace

CHANCE!

Isak starts strongly on his first outing back in the Newcastle side with a header which is blocked at the far post before he hooks the follow-up off target.

KICK OFF! We're officially underway at St James' Park.

As kick-off in our first game of the day approaches, Hürzeler has rated the Seagulls' chances of reaching the last eight this afternoon: "When less top clubs are in the tournament, the chance is bigger. On the other side, we all know that the cups, they always have their own laws, their own rules, so you don't know what will come next. This cup tournament already proved it this season so far. There’s been a lot of crazy results."

Elsewhere in the FA Cup this afternoon, holders Manchester United are hosting Fulham in a rerun of their 2023 quarter final. Rùben Amorim's side are currently checking in at Old Trafford. We'll have team news from there once it lands.

Brighton, meanwhile, are looking to reach the quarter finals and extend their current winning run to a fifth game. Fabian Hürzeler's side have already tasted victory at St James' this season, too. They took maximum points from October's Premier League encounter in the North East courtesy of a 1-0 win over their hosts.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has explained Isak's return to his side's XI, telling ITV:  "He's in. He's fully fit, he's recovered, and we're delighted he's back. He's been a pivotal figure for us, he's led the line really well and scored a number of goals. We're delighted he's ready for the game."

The Magpies also have Joelinton back at their disposal: "He's the ultimate professional in terms of his recovery from his injuries. He adds a physical strength that I think we've been missing in recent weeks. I don't think he'll play through the whole game but he'll certainly get through a number of minutes."

The teams are in from St James' Park and there's a welcome return for Alexander Isak in the hosts' starting line-up.

Good afternoon and welcome to our live blog for Sunday's FA Cup fifth round ties. We've got two games this afternoon to discover who will reach the quarter finals.
