Erling Haaland is unlikely to face retrospective punishment for the incident that saw the Manchester City forward throw the ball at Arsenal defender Gabriel.

Haaland celebrated Manchester City’s stoppage-time equaliser against Arsenal by throwing the ball against Gabriel’s head, as the Citizens celebrated a last-gasp leveller at the Etihad.

Emotions spilled over at full-time, with Haaland involved in heated confrontations with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and forward Gabriel Jesus at the final whistle.

John Stones’ 98th-minute goal rescued a point for the Premier League champions in an enthralling encounter with last season’s runners-up, after Arsenal had turned the game around following Haaland’s early opener.

Arsenal had Leandro Trossard sent off in first-half stoppage time and the Gunners’ defensive tactics incensed the home side in the second period.

Haaland’s match up with Gabriel was one of the contests of the game and led to the late incident. However, the Norwegian will not face retrospective punishment after VAR reviewed the incident and deemed no action was necessary.
