Manchester City take on Leyton Orient today at the Gaughan Group Stadium in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking to pick up a win that will see them progress to the next round of the competition. But Leyton Orient will be eager to cause a monumental upset so it could be a tricky afternoon for Manchester City against the League One side. Here is the latest City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven for today’s match.
There does appear to be light at the of the injury tunnel for Pep Guardiola’s side. Guardiola told the media yesterday that Jeremy Doku, Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias could feature in today’s match. That is welcome news, considering the tough run of fixtures Manchester City faces over the next month. Ederson should also be available for today’s match after missing City’s loss to Arsenal.
Based on the available information only Rodri appears to be unavailable for today’s match against Leyton Orient. We may also see Oscar Bobb make his long-awaited return to the Manchester City squad today.
Stefan Ortega: Ortega wasn’t at his best against Arsenal. But I expect him to start today’s match.
Rico Lewis: We haven’t seen Lewis start for several games now. But I expect Matheus Nunes to start against Real Madrid so that should see Lewis start against Leyton Orient.
John Stones: I think we will see one of Manchester City’s new centre-backs start today so that would require an experienced player to play alongside them. I expect Stones to fulfil that role today.
Vitor Reis: It’s a toss-up between Reis and Khusanov as to who will start at centre-back today, in my opinion. But I’ll go with Reis to make his debut for Manchester City at the Gaughan Group Stadium.
Nico O’Reilly: O’Reilly played at left-back against Salford City. He needs to play and played well enough then to have another run out in the left-back role today.
Nico Gonzàlez: I expect Gonzàlez to start today’s match. He will need minutes before City play Real Madrid so he should start to get some minutes in with his new teammates.
Ilkay Gundogan: Appears to be an automatic selection for today’s match to rest several of City’s other midfielders for the Real Madrid fixture.
Kevin De Bruyne: De Bruyne came off the bench against Arsenal but he may start today’s match. I expect him to play an hour or so in a bid to put the tie to bed.
James McAtee: McAtee scored a hat trick in City’s 8-nil win over Salford City in City’s third-round tie win. He needs minutes, and today’s match is the ideal opportunity for him to start.
Jack Grealish: Grealish hasn’t featured in Manchester City’s past three matches. I expect him to start against Leyton Orient and if he does he must make an impression.
Omar Marmoush: Marmoush could lead the line for his new team today as it would be a shock to see Erling Haaland start at the Gaughan Group Stadium. If Marmoush does start it will be interesting to see how he performs.
