Manchester United have reportedly reached out to Olympiacos to explore the possibility of signing wonderkid Charalampos Kostoulas this summer.
Since INEOS took over United’s operations last year, the club’s transfer strategy has shifted from signing established players at their peak or past their prime to focusing on young talents with the potential to develop into world-class stars with proper nurturing.
Some of the youngsters United have brought in over the past 12 months include Chido Obi (17), Ayden Heaven (18), Samuel Lusale (17), James Overy (18) and Sekou Kone (18).
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were scouting Kostoulas, who is widely regarded as one of the most promising talents emerging from Greece.
The 17-year-old has featured in 21 top-flight matches for Olympiacos so far this term, registering six goals and one assist in that period. He has also made eight Europa League appearances and provided one assist.
Kostoulas is an incredibly versatile player. In addition to playing as a striker, he can also be deployed to great effect in an attacking midfield role or on the wing.
Standing at around 6’1, the teenager is strong, physically dominant and has good agility that enables him to be comfortable in tight spaces and when under pressure. He is technically gifted and as seen from his numbers, has an amazing eye for goal.
Now, Sportime report that United have contacted Olympiacos for Kostoulas.
The news outlet states that after extensively scouting the player, United have been left impressed with him and especially his ability with the ball at his feet. As such, the Red Devils are prepared to “move to the next level” – trying to get a deal over the line.
Olympiacos don’t want to lose Kostoulas this summer but there’s a feeling that if United push, there is very little José Luis Mendilibar’s side could do.
United are not the only party chasing Kostoulas.
Arsenal have also been mentioned to be admirers of his while a few days ago, CaughtOffside noted that Aston Villa are frontrunners to secure his services.
United are back in action on April 1 when they go away to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest.
