Following rumours earlier in the day that Luke Shaw wouldn’t be part of the travelling Manchester United squad to face Arsenal due to injury, the player himself took to Instagram to confirm the news.

“Unfortunately I’ve had a small setback,” Shaw confirmed. “I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.”

Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic confirms that the problem is a muscle injury, and Shaw will be out “for a few weeks”.

Shaw had spent the first few months of the season sidelined through injury, but he recently made his comeback and played in all three of Ruben Amorim’s first games as Manchester United manager.

Yet the 29-year-old is now set for another spell on the sidelines, and he won’t be making a fourth appearance against Arsenal.

Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo will both be absent as well, having picked up their fifth yellow cards of the season in the previous game against Everton. They’re serving their one-game suspensions on Wednesday night.

Victor Lindelof has also been ruled out of the match, and Jonny Evans is a doubt with a knock.

One United player who might return to the squad after injury is Leny Yoro, with Amorim suggesting they’d make a call on him after their last training session pre-Arsenal.

But after over four month out of action, it’s likely Yoro will begin the game on the bench, even if he is fit to make the squad.
