Manchester United were involved in significant deals with Bayern Munich in the recent past. They agreed a combined fee to sign Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from the Bavarian club during the last transfer window. The Red Devils have been linked with three Bayern players during the ongoing season.
Alphonso Davies is one of the Bayern players attracting interest from Manchester United. With Ruben Amorim playing a system that needs wingbacks, Davies would be an ideal fit for United on the left flank. However, one credible report from England has played down Manchester United’s interest in Bayern Munich left-back.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United are not weighing up a move for Alphonso Davies. Even though Davies will be available on a free transfer in the summer, Manchester United will not be able to afford his signing.
With Manchester United out of the race to sign Davies, Real Madrid remain the prime candidates to sign the Canadian international. FC Barcelona have reportedly held talks with the representatives of Davies, but financial woes at the Catalan club will stop them from pursuing a deal.
Bayern remain hopeful about extending the contract of Davies. The reports in Germany during December suggested that significant progress had been made during discussions between both sides. However, Davies is yet to make a final decision. The Canadian will likely make a decision on his future during the winter transfer window.
Davies endured a difficult last season amidst intense speculation about his future in Munich. His performance levels dropped, which saw him lose his place in the starting XI. Thomas Tuchel preferred Raphaël Guerreiro for the left-back spot during the business end of last season.
However, things have changed for good this season. Davies has regained his best form under Kompany. He is currently Bayern’s first-choice left-back. The Canadian enjoys working with Kompany and finds the Belgian coach’s training sessions very intense and positive.
Bayern will hope Kompany can play a role in convincing Davies to extend his stay in Munich. The club chiefs have publicly requested Davies and other players to become the face of the club by spending the peak of their careers in Bavaria.
Davies will listen to offers from other clubs in the coming weeks. As long as Bayern present a competitive contract offer, they will remain in the hunt to extend the contract of Davies.
