Robert Lewandowski once again put his incredible goalscoring skills on display in the initial phase of this season. Even though he has slowed down a bit in the last few weeks, he has still scored 23 goals in 24 matches for FC Barcelona and finished 2024 as the top scorer in the top 5 European leagues.

However, one characteristic of the Polish striker that is becoming a concern for the Blaugranes is his advanced age, as he is already 36 years old, and it is clear that he does not have many years left to keep playing at the highest level.

Thus, the Catalans are looking for a long-term replacement for the Polish superstar in the coming summer transfer window, and have already been linked with several players for this purpose. One of these players who has been linked with Barcelona quite strongly in the last few months is the Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres.

However, the Blaugrana club is not the only one looking to sign the Sporting CP forward, and another side that will be looking to incorporate him into their squad is the Premier League side Manchester United.

The Red Devils recently appointed Gyökeres’ former coach Ruben Amorim as their team’s trainer, and previously, he had himself clearly stated that he will not be looking to sign the €75m-rated Swede before the end of this season, mainly because of the respect he has for his former club and his home city.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, he is now willing to go back on his word, as his Manchester United side continues to struggle with results. Currently standing 14th in the Premier League, the Red Devils have struggled with scoring goals and there will be not many players better suited to mitigate this issue for them.

Thus, the English club can look to make advances for Gyökeres in January, and if they are successful, Barcelona will have to look for another replacement for Lewandowski next summer.
