Enzo Maresca believes Cole Palmer is up there with the very best and backed him to shine at the Club World in America this summer.

The Blues head stateside for the new 32 team tournament, which will take place between June 14th and July 13th.

Chelsea have been drawn in Group C with Mexico’s Club Leon, Flamengo of Brazil and Tunisian side ES Tunis, teams which shouldn’t cause them many issues.

Maresca backs Palmer to shine this summer

Chelsea are expecting Maresca to go on a deep run in the competition, which contains teams like Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

The Blues will hope their talented squad can step up and deliver at the end of a gruelling season, with Palmer no doubt one of the main attractions.

The 22-year-old has once again been Chelsea’s main man this season with 14 goals and six assists in the league, but he’s struggled for form recently and hasn’t scored since the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on January 14th.

Palmer has come in for criticism for his performances, but Graeme Souness has backed him to return to form and warned those critics to back off.

The England international missed Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal, with Maresca confirming he’s set to undergo a scan on a muscle injury on Monday.

However, despite his current struggles, the Italian has backed Palmer to deliver for the Blues at the Club World Cup.

“I’ve said it more than once, Cole Palmer is up there with the very best, top players who can produce something at any moment, create something out of nothing,” he said as quoted by Give Me Sport.
