Matheus Cunha insists he did not consider leaving Wolves during the winter transfer window.

Cunha was heavily linked with a move away from Molineux in January amid reported interest from Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Nottingham Forest and Newcastle.

Mikel Arteta side’s need for attacking reinforcements increased after losing Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus to injury, whilst Man Utd were on the market to address a lack of goals and creativity in the team.

At one stage it appeared Cunha was leaving Wolves as reports claimed he performed a u-turn with regards to signing a new contract and informed the club of his intention to leave amid growing transfer interest in him.

Though, despite talk of Forest firming up their interest in Cunha by submitting a ‘club-record’ offer, no bids were officially lodged for the Brazilian.

In fact, the 25-year-old ended up signing a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Wolves a couple of days before the winter transfer window closed and is now focused on helping the side avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Speaking to Football Focus prior to Wolves facing Bournemouth away from home, Cunha as discussed all the transfer speculation: "I never think about leaving, honestly. I know I have a lot of things to do already and I always said that this was the club that gave me the chance to come back.

"They opened the door for me and I always felt I wanted to give back everything so to leave in this type of situation is hard.

"I am so happy to be here. I hope to continue doing good things."
