Milan Mayor Beppe Sala expects it to take seven to eight years for Inter Milan and AC Milan to build a new San Siro.

The Milan Mayor gave his thoughts on the project to reporters, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan and AC Milan are still aiming to build a new stadium in place of the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri cannot fully tear down the iconic stadium. However, they will be able to build adjacent to the existing structure.

First, the clubs will have to buy the land. The city of Milan currently own the entire area, which the  clubs renting the stadium.

Then, the clubs will have to begin the long process of actually building a new stadium.

Naturally, the priority will be to get it over the line as soon as possible. However, that will hardly be easy.

Inter and Milan see a new, more modern stadium as vital for increasing their revenues. This could allow them to keep pace with their top European rivals.

But building a stadium of that magnitude will take some time.

Sala Expects Inter & Milan To Need 7-8 Years For San Siro Project

The project to build a huge, modern stadium in the San Siro will also have a big impact on the surrounding area.

Milan Mayor Beppe Sala suggested that “I suggest we use the money we collect to focus on the people who live in the San Siro neighbourhood.”

“Because there will be seven or eight years of construction work there.”
