Renewals have been a big topic of interest at AC Milan in recent months, and it seems the Rossoneri are closing in on their first renewal – Mike Maignan’s.
In the run-up to the summer, questions were asked about sacrifices being made in the Milan squad, whether it was a key player leaving during the mercato, or multiple players leaving to make way for new ones.
One of those key players who could have left in the summer was Mike Maignan, and there was heavy interest in his services, and at points, it seemed like a move away could have been possible with the figures being asked by the goalkeeper.
However, no move away came to fruition, and the Rossoneri are getting ‘closer’ to renewing his contract, according to Milan News. The report suggests that there have been ‘very positive’ contacts between the two parties recently.
It is believed that the deal will be worth €5 million per season plus bonuses – €2m less than he was originally requesting – and the deal is comparable to Rafael Leao’s in that way.
Whilst the goalkeeper did have doubts about staying at the club during the summer when there was interest in him from Bayern Munich and Chelsea, the report suggests he is now ‘absolutely convinced’ of staying at Milan, and his extension should be finalised shortly.
