According to a report from L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi, Montpellier HSC have reached an agreement with Olympique de Marseille for the loan of Bamo Meïté (23) until the end of the season. Montpellier will have the option to make the deal permanent for €8 million as reported by Mohamed Toubache-Ter.
Marseille had not wanted a “dry” loan for the player. And, with the window shutting in France at midnight, Montpellier had changed tact and inserted a purchase option for a key target. The club have accepted Montpellier’s offer, which will allow Meïté to gain some much-needed playing time as opportunities in La Provence have begun to dry up under head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Meïté had been a clear target for the Montpellier who currently sit near the bottom of the table, only a point above Le Havre AC. La Paillade are managed by Jean-Louis Gasset who had previously worked with the centre-back last season when he was the interim head coach for Marseille.
