Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers has become the first player in Champions League history to score two goals in the opening five minutes of a game.

The 22-year-old struck in the third minute against Celtic, slotting home from close range after fine build-up play between Jacob Ramsey and Youri Tielemans, before doubling his tally with a terrific curling effort that left Kasper Schmeichel groping at thin air.

No player has ever matched Rogers' accomplishment, which set the pulses racing at Villa Park in a clash between two of British football's most prestigious clubs.

Villa have enjoyed another brilliant season to date under Unai Emery, taking many by surprise with their form in the Champions League, and they headed into the final matchday already guaranteed a place in the knockout round play-offs.

Rogers has been integral to Villa's success, playing in a second striker role behind either Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran, though his two goals were the first he's scored in any kind of European competition.

The former Middlesbrough star, signed in January 2024 in a deal that could eventually be worth £15m, has featured in all 22 of Villa's Premier League games this season, with his form leading to a first England call-up towards the back end of 2024.
