Newcastle make enquiry for Angers’ Yahia Fofana | OneFootball

Yahia Fofana (24) has distinguished himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in Ligue 1 this season, helping SCO Angers secure their safety in France’s top-flight.

Statistically, he is bettered only by Stade de Reims’ Yehvann Diouf this season in Ligue 1. The Ivory Coast international is already garnering interest, according to a report from L’Équipe. The publication understands that two weeks ago, Newcastle United made an enquiry for the Angers goalkeeper.

However, if they are to make concrete steps to sign Fofana, they may face competition. Southampton, relegated back to the EFL Championship, are also interested and watched him during the 2-1 win over RC Strasbourg Alsace at the weekend. However, playing in the second division does not figure in the goalkeeper’s plans.

Torino are also interested and have been following the goalkeeper since he joined Angers in 2022. An unnamed top-five Ligue 1 team also enquired about Fofana’s availability in January. It is thought that the Ivorian will sell for a fee between €8-10m.
