The midfielder sat out the first half of this season before going out on loan once again, this time joining relegation threatened Portsmouth.

With only five wins in their opening 25 Championship matches, Pompey looking set to head back down to League One.

In the 12 Championship games Isaac Hayden started for Portsmouth, they won seven, got two draws and just three defeats.

Clearly the NUFC loan signing having a very positive impact.

Now the season has ended, Isaac Hayden releasing an emotional personal statement to Portsmouth fans, via social media:

‘Job done. Safety ensured, Pompey a Championship club again next season, which is vital in their rise back to the EPL in years to come.

‘A fantastic club with amazing support and rich heritage, I’m thankful for the opportunity to play for this club. Thanks to the owners, Rich and the coaching staff for the chance to come in and try to affect the club in a positive way.

‘Thanks to my team mates, a fantastic group with so much quality and heart that will flourish again next season. Thank you to you fans, without you football is nothing, just sorry for the away performances not giving you more good results.

‘Wish everyone associated with Portsmouth FC all the best for the future…. PUP.’

Isaac Hayden referring to Portsmouth’s poor away form, only three wins in 23 games on their travels.

However, Pompey losing just three of their last 15 games at home.

Hopefully his form in recent months for Portsmouth will lead to a permanent deal for Isaac Hayden, whether that is at Pompey or elsewhere.
