Nicolas Kuhn has enjoyed a fabulous campaign and is very much in running for player of the year. Indeed if he keeps up his good form it will be a travesty if he doesn’t scoop the top honours when it’s time for the awards to be dished out.

Sweet sixteen and more to come from Kuhn

Nicolas has scored 16 goals and registered 11 assists in all competitions this season and is very much the main contributor to our success this season.

He’s performed at the highest level of all in the Champions League, he’s our top scorer in the league and of course he scored in our recent Premier Sports League cup final win over theRangers.

After a slow start to his Celtic career a year ago, the German has turned it around to become arguably our most valuable player in the Celtic squad. The German winger arrived from Rapid Vienna for what has turned out to be a bargain fee of just £3m. That’s a little like scoring big on the new casino sites not on gamstop and truth be told Celtic have become accustomed to such situations in recent years with modest investments in the likes of Jota and Matt O’Riley turning into a combined £55m in transfer sales.

Dental problems affected his start at Celtic

Kuhn’s slow start at Celtic was caused by dental problems which resulted in a loss of weight that affected his strength and stamina. That meant we had to effectively wait until this season to understand why Brendan Rodgers was so keen to sign the talented player, who is now attracting interest from the German national team manager.

Despite being a creative influence he’s also proved to be deadly in front of goal and has shown a predatory instinct better than some so called seasoned strikers.

Blistering pace as well as a terrific work rate

He has blistering pace as well as a terrific work rate and all this makes him very much the complete player. Nicolas is without a doubt the best player in the country at this moment in time, no one comes close.

More improvement to come says Brendan Rodgers

The Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for Nicolas Kuhn at the weekend after he scored a double in the 3-0 win over St Mirren which extended Celtic’s lead at the top of the table to 13 points.

“Nicolas is a player who’s improving, and he has still got more improvement for me. That needs to come from where he was at when he first came in to now.

“He’s been a consistent performer, so I’m really pleased about that. And you get a bang in the nose in a big game. Get on with it. And he did that — very good.”

Bang on the nose at Ibrox

That bang in the nose came at Ibrox in the dead rubber defeat and even on Sunday against St Mirren Kuhn admitted that he was still a little dizzy after being on the receiving end of a shocking challenge.

I’m still a bit dizzy but it’s going to be fine. I don’t know if the nose is broken. It’s a bit painful but I’ll be fine. The loss was more painful. There was also a kick and it was not our best game.”

On whether it should have been a red card for theRangers player Kuhn said: “The situation in last Thursday’s game, I don’t decide. We have to keep going. I didn’t even realise what happened in the moment, so afterwards I didn’t know if it was yellow or anything else.

Celtic showed a reaction on Sunday

“But that’s not the most important thing. The most important thing was that we showed a reaction on Sunday. We did and now we focus on the next game.

“We had to show a reaction after theRangers game and that’s what we did. We’re happy that we got the three points. Now we will focus on Dundee United. It was really important. We’re not used to losing, and against St Mirren we did much better, scored some goals, and were happy with the three points.”

Here’s Nicolas Kuhn’s post match media conference on Sunday after scoring twice in Celtic’s 3-0 win over St Mirren. Celtic are back in action on Wednesday evening, against Dundee United at Celtic Park and Nicolas Kuhn be looking for more of the same in terms of goals and assists.
