NO ONE wants to face us! Manuel Akanji says Man City are ‘still one of the best in Europe’ | OneFootball

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji claimed his side are still one of the best in Europe and are capable of beating anyone after progressing in the Champions League.

City avoided an early elimination from the Champions League as they came from behind to defeat Club Brugge 3-1, but a step up in performance is needed with Real Madrid or Bayern Munich standing between them and the last 16.

Akanji is not fazed by the calibre of opposition, however: “Obviously it’s not the team you want to face but we’re looking forward to the challenge and I think we can beat every team in Europe.

“I don’t know what is going on in their head, but I think we can beat every team in Europe so whoever comes we are ready for the challenge.

“Even though we haven’t played as good as we used to, I think no team wants to face us.”

Despite finding some league form, City’s defensive fragility has continued to prove an issue, dropping points from winning positions against Sporting CP, Feyenoord and PSG in the Champions League.

Akanji, however, says his side’s win over Chelsea proves they are improving: “We beat Chelsea at the weekend. I think Chelsea have been a really good team this year, which was a really good win from our side. I think it was a well deserved win as well with a good performance.

“Obviously the performance against PSG wasn’t as good as we wanted it to be but I still think if we give it our all and we all work together on the pitch, we are still one of the best teams in Europe, but we have to prove it match after match.

“We didn’t do it yet this season but I still think we are capable of it.”
