Newcastle United and Manchester City are both keen on recruiting the services of Real Valladolid defender Juma Bah during the January transfer window, according to the Sun.

The reigning Premier League champions have been scouting the 18-year-old Sierra Leonean defender for a while, but they will face competition from the Magpies for his signature.

Apart from Man City and Newcastle, Everton and Crystal Palace are also some of the English top-flight clubs keeping tabs on Bah, and more suitors could emerge for the 6ft 5in giant defender given his impressive start to life in La Liga.

The Toons wanted Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi during the last summer transfer window but baulked at the demands of the Eagles.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe remains keen on strengthening his defence, and a move for Bah could be on the cards next month.

His Man City counterpart, Pep Guardiola, is desperate to arrest a woeful form which has seen his side ship 17 goals in their last seven games, and January reinforcements could be needed.

Bah joined Valladolid on loan from Sierra Leonean club AIK Freetong this summer, initially expected to play for their B side before breaking into the first-team.

The teenage sensation became the first Sierra Leone-born player to play in the Spanish top-flight when he made his debut against Real Sociedad in September, and he has since played in six more games, catching the eyes of clubs in England.

A move to the Premier League could appeal to the youngster, but he would want guarantees over regular playing chances before making any decision on his decision.

Despite his huge potential, Bah is unlikely to walk straight into the starting XI at Newcastle or Man City if he joins them next month, and he could opt to remain with Valladolid to continue his development for now.
