Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed the permanent capture of defender Arthur Theate on Sunday afternoon. The 24-year-old signed a four-and-a-half year contract with the Bundesliga outfit valid until 2029. The German club’s desire to acquire Theate on a permanent basis from Stade Rennes remained common knowledge ever since the loan deal was reached this summer.
Kicker reports that a base-transfer-fee of €13m immediately flows into the coffers of the Ligue 1 club. An additional €6m in bonuses are also part of the deal, bringing the amount up to the €19m Rennes paid Bologna for the 23-times-capped Belgian international in January 2022. Theate currently maintains a €20m market value.
Theate has started 19 of 20 Bundesliga fixtures this season, playing the full 90 minutes on all but one occasion. His flexibility in defense has rendered him quite a useful actor for SGE trainer Dino Toppmöller. Overall, Theate has worked as a left-back or centre-back in 28 appearances across all competitions.
“Since his arrival at Eintracht, Arthur has shown what great potential he has,” Eintracht board-member-for-sport Markus Krösche noted in a press release. “With his strong will and his professional attitude, he is an important player for us on and off the pitch. We are pleased that he will be remaining in Frankfurt long term.”
