An official Newcastle United injury update on Friday morning.
Eddie Howe talking to journalists.
The NUFC Head Coach speaking ahead of this match at Portman Road.
Eddie Howe hoping to see his team repeat the form they showed against Leicester and Brentford this past week, scoring seven and conceding just the one goal.
Official Newcastle United injury update – Availability for the Ipswich match:
Nick Pope – Remains out with his knee injury.
Jamaal Lascelles – Long-term injured and still unavailable.
Emil Krafth – Also still on the recovery route from his injury.
Sven Botman – Eddie Howe very happy with the hour Botman played on Monday night in the 3-2 reserve team victory over Chelsea but not available yet for the first team.
Callum Wilson – His latest hamstring injury seeing the striker out for the a couple of months.
Joelinton – Suspended for this Ipswich match after picking up five yellows in the Premier League.
So at least six Newcastle United players unavailable for this Ipswich match.
On the positive side, Eddie Howe not reporting any new injuries following the 3-1 win over Brentford. That is, apart from the stitches Joelinton needed for his ear injury on Wednesday night, hopefully though the enforced rest will see him ok for Aston Villa in six days time.
Another positive is that Sean Longstaff is back available after his suspension for Wednesday’s cup game.
Eddie Howe on his players following the cup quarter-final win:
“There were some tired bodies [after Wednesday’s match] but refreshingly energetic [now], the results have been good and that does change how you feel about your body.”
Eddie Howe asked how Joelinton is?
“He is okay.
“A little bit battered and bruised and he has had a few stitches I believe.
“A bit around the area was quite delicate and he had a cut mouth I think.
“Not being available this weekend [for Ipswich] is probably a good thing for him, because it allows him to rest those bruises and wounds, then hopefully be fully fixed [for the Aston Villa match].”
